So you need help! The business you started last year is suddenly falling behind in revenues, the economy sucks and you don’t know what to do. Your buddy has a similar yet different problem keeping him awake at night. He has fulfillment issues and can’t fill orders fast enough creating backlogs, unhappy customers and more. Both have problems – where do you go for help?

A Business Coach will treat you as an equal and collaboratively work out tactics and scenarios for you to work on to take some strain off you and get your business back on track. A Business Consultant will come in as the white knight with solutions to your problems as long as you take his sage advice. You’ll pay him the big bucks because you are putting your life and that of your business in his hands. You desperately need him to make decisions for you.

Then there’s the Business Counselor (which I am being certified in through APEC). The Counselor uses his practical busienss experience in the same way as the others noted above but rather than tell you what to do or provide strongly recommended advice to you he will provide you with insight into the problems facing your business.

By pointing out things relevant to your business that you may or may not be able to do something about, it will be your decision. No recriminations here folks cause you may be in trouble but you are calling the shots.

What works best for you is the type of interaction you really need. Some people need the hand holding, others need qualified advice like what would you do in my situation? others really can make the decision but don’t know all the options available to them.

The Coach works with you, the Consultant does it for you and the Counselor help you make the choice.
